Woolfish Jazzy Handwarmers

Materials:
1 ball Dk yarn (photographed in Knitcol, available from Woolfish)
Set of double pointed 4mm needles *(If using 4mm straight needles, please scoll down to Method 2)
1 metre of contrast wool (this is called waste yarn)

Method 1 (using 4 needles):
Cast on 40 stitches,  (I sometimes cast on to long needle and when I knit the first row I divide over 3 double pointed needles.)
1st row - Knit 1 row.
2nd row - (yarn over knit 2 tog) repeat this for the complete row.
Now knit for the next 23 rows.

Use the waste yarn and knit 5 stitches, turn the knitting and purl back along the 5stitches that you have just knitted.
Now using the original wool, knit another 10 rows .
Next row (yarn over knit 2 tog) repeat this for the complete row.
Knit 2 more rows .
Cast off.

Thumb:
Gently pull out the waste yarn that is holding the stitches and put a needle in top stitches and 1 needle to hold the bottom stitches.
Using original wool, start knitting from the top needle.
When you come to the palm # side of the thumb pick up and knit 4stitches.
Knit all the stitches for 7 rows.
Cast off .

Sew in loose ends (I tend to split the yarn and sew in in different directions).
If there are gaps at the base of the thumb carefully sew and bring the loose stitches together.

#Please note that the palm side is different on left and right hand.

Gently wash and rinse and flatten out in the shape you would like, you might need to use pins to hold in shape until it is dry.

Well done.

Method 2 (using two needles):
Cast on 42 stitches.
1st row - Knit 1 row.
2nd row - Purl.
3rd row - (yarn over knit 2 tog) repeat this for the complete row.
Now knit in stocking stitch (one row knit and the next row purl) for the next 15rows.

While working in stocking stitch cast on 6 stitches at the end of the next 2 rows.
Work the next 8 rows in stocking stitch (this will be the thumb).
Cast off 6 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
Knit in stocking stitch a further 8 rows.
Next row (yarn over knit 2 tog) repeat this for the complete row.
Purl next row.
Cast off.

Sew up the sides.

Well done.
