30-34in, 34-38in, 38-42in
5, 6, 7 x 100g Balls of New Lanark Aran (I'm just about to try it using Noro Blossom, so try any Aran weight yarn)
5.5mm straight needles
5.5mm circular 40cm needles (you can use straight needles if you knit the sleeve separately and then sew in )
Waste yarn (this is wool that you will knit where the sleeve will go, when you take out these stitches it will reveal the stitches to be picked up for the sleeve) please use a different colour wool to what you are knitting the garment with
Tension : in garter stitch 24rows x 14 stitches for a 4inch square( you may need to adjust your needle size to achieve this tension)
Using straight needles cast on 56(60, 64) sts and work in garter st throughout. Knit until work measures 21(23, 25)ins.
For sleeve hole row knit 15(16, 17) stitches, now using the waste yarn knit 26 (28, 30)sts, turn needles and knit back along these same 26,(28,30)stitches, cut the waste yarn leaving about 6 inches, using the original yarn knit to end.
Continue until work measures 32.5 (35.5, 38.5)ins. When slightly stretched, then work another sleeve hole using the waste yarn as before.
Continue until work measures 53.5(58.5, 63.5)ins, then cast off.
With right side facing and using the circular needle, pull out the waste yarn, carefully picking up the stitches as the appear, you will have 52,(56,60)stitches, now knit in the round. Work in stocking stitch to achieve the garter stitch look until sleeve measures 15ins. Cast off.
To fasten use big brooches, corsages or pins supplied by Woolfish.
